Flu Season: Community Preparation

December 16, 2011

During the month of November, Puentes de Salud staff, volunteers, and community members worked together to promote knowledge about and preparation for flu season.

With support from community stakeholders, including the City of Philadelphia Health Department, Puentes de Salud providers administered 4 flu shot clinics which included free flu vaccinations and information for patients.  Additionally, outreach to the community was conducted by Puentes de Salud's promotoras and in Puentes de Salud's after-school tutoring program (Puentes Hacia el Futuro), educating community members about the flu, its symptoms and causes, and why it is important to get vaccinated. Children in the Puentes Hacia el Futuro program and their parents received flu shots, in addition to many other community members.
